HOW TO ASSESS DEI WORK

In a previous role, I was constantly asked for tools to help faculty and staff assess DEI contributions. I could not find exactly what I was looking for so I created my own (with appropriate references). This document, specifically the rubric, can be applied to evaluations of candidates during interview processes as well as DEI contributions in annual review processes. I am sharing the document with you. While this document was made in the context of higher education, it can be adapted to non-higher education contexts, too.

In the document, you will find 4 main areas:

  1. Working definitions of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). I encourage organizations to use their own organization’s definitions of DEI or definitions that feel most right to your organization

  2. Areas of opportunity for incorporating DEI

  3. Rubric to assess DEI contributions with detailed examples

  4. Blank rubric for you to use
